Field Mark Examples

Bicolored Beak Bicolored Bill or Beak: when upper and lower beaks are different colors. In this case, the upper beak is black and the lower beak is white.
Crest Crest: the tuft of feathers on the top of the head. In this case, it is black.
Crown Stripe Crown Stripe: the stripe in the middle of the head. In this case, it is yellow.
Eyebrow Stripe Eyebrow Stripe: the stripe above the eye. In this case, it is white.
Eyeline Eyeline: a line through the eye. In this case, it is black.
Eyering Eyering: a circle of color around the eye. In this case, it is buffy colored.
Lore Lore: a colored area between base of beak and eye. In this case, it is yellow.
Malar Stripe Malar Stripe: a streak that extends backwards and downwards below the base of the bill. In this case, it is red.
Moustachial Stripe Moustachial Stripe: a stripe that extends backwards and downwards from the base of the bill above the malar area. In this case, it is black.
Nape Crescent Nape Crescent: a mark on the back of the head between the crown and the hind neck. In this case, it is red.
Rump Rump: can sometimes be conspicuously colored above the upper tail coverts. In this case, it is white.
Throat Patch Throat Patch: a distinguishing mark immediately below the chin and above the breast. In this case, it's white.
