On January 30, 2004, in between stretching his wings, this male Anna's Hummingbird was singing and flashing his gorget to attract the female Anna's in the area.

The Anna's Hummingbirds are here all year. In our area, they start the mating process in late December and early January. When he sees a female, he flies high into the sky and dives past her making a loud chirp with his wings. Once they mate, she starts building her nest. He has nothing to do with nest-building or raising the young.

You can read more about the Anna's Hummingbird in the Backyard Birds section.
