Ruby-crowned Kinglets are very small birds. Being the size of hummingbirds, they could go unnoticed. We often see them flit their wings moving quickly searching limb to limb for aphids and other small insects and spiders. They even hover like hummingbirds.

Their bright red patch of feathers (hence, ruby-crowned) are concealed beneath the male's head feathers. During mating season, they display their red feathers when encountering another male.
