The Yellow-shafted Northern Flickers have a red nape crescent, black malar stripes and yellow shafts.

The Yellow-shafted Flickers arrive at our location during the winter and typically roost in one of the nest boxes every year. They love sunflower chips, peanut butter cakes, suet cakes and rolled oats.

The female Yellow-shafted Flicker has a red nape crescent and yellow shafts.

The Yellow-shafted Flickers often mate with Red-shafted Flickers resulting in a flicker with some characteristics of each bird. This bird is called an Intergrade Northern Flicker.
